So, what are the alternatives?

Well the ACCA is one of the most Globally recognised qualifications and has a huge number of students, however there are a number of other accountancy qualifications out their.

CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) along with the ACCA has the biggest amount of students.

I am reliably informed that CIMA is slightly easier than ACCA exams. (if you are a CIMA student or qualified accountant and disagree - well you would wouldn't you?)  So if you want a career in management accounts. (this qualification is no good if you want to be an Auditor, for instance).

The other big ones are ICAEW, ICAS, etc..

That is Institute of chartered accountants in England and Wales.   Institute of chartered accountants in Scotland.

Other accountancy qualifications not as superior as those already mentioned are Chartered Accounting Technicians (CAT).
